I believe this was my first sweet 16 cake and it was a lot of fun.  I really like the way it turned out.  The whole cake is yellow and marshmallow fondant.

Since it's Valentine's Day here's a cake I did last week with little hearts on it.  It was a birthday cake for a friend's mom.  I love the brown and blue.

first birthday cake

So I have this friend (who was really my sister's best friend and more like another sister to me) who spent lots of time at our house growing up and the three of us spent many nights giggling while we were all piled up in one bed.  Such fun memories!  Now, she has a little girl who is turning one.  Oh how life changes......oh the nostalgia....oh how bitter sweet.

Enough reminiscing...back to the cake.

This little sis of mine and a good friend of her's decided to have their kids' first birthdays together.  They asked me to do a black and white cow print with red accents.  I really love these colors together.  The top tier of the cake was yellow cake and cream cheese filling with strawberries and the bottom tier was butter pecan cake with cream cheese filling.  The icing was butter cream and the decorations fondant. whimsical...a little different

This cake was fun.  I was asked to do a green and black polka dot cake....."but feel free to funk it up".  I decided to do a square cake a little bit whimsical.  Not whimsical like the topsy turvy cakes, but kind of an upside down triangle.  The top cake being the biggest and graduating sizes down to the bottom.   It makes me think of a cartoon cake.  I was a little nervous about it as I usually am when trying something new.  But, I love it!  It's my favorite right now and I would really like to try this look with a two tiered cake one of these days.

So on to the cake.  It was chocolate cake, cream cheese filling, and covered and decorated in marshmallow fondant.  Happy 18th Birthday, Jennifer!
